Mary Darby weds John Ford (03/14/10)

Mary Darby weds John Ford

March 13, 2010

The Family Church

You knew it was going to be fun, just because of the people who were getting married, and it was.

The Family Church on Garland Road, just inside Dallas, close enough we can call it Garland, was the setting for a God filled, love filled, friend filled, patriotic wedding. And the stars for the day were Mary Darby and John Ford.

Because of their affection for and close association with their families, Mary’s sisters were her honor attendants and her brother was the emcee and her escort, John’s sister and other family members were seated in the front rows. Longtime friend and confidant, Larry Jeffus, lead the pledge of allegiance to the U. S. Flag and to the Texas Flag. There was an honor guard of Young Maries, who posted and retired the flags.

They are a patriotic couple, and their choice of colors for the wedding emphasized that patriotism. It was red/white/blue for everything, from the colors for the three attendants for the bride, the flowers and the decorations for the reception.

Before the bride made her entrance, in addition to Dallas County School Board Member Pauline Dixon, special recognition was paid to all city, county and state officials who attended. It was that kind of day, Mary thanking everyone for being there, and letting everyone know that she and the love of her life, John, are a happy couple.

The young bridesmaid, Mary’s niece, blew bubbles as she walked down the isle, instead of dropping rose pedals. And then it was time for the bride to make her entrance. She was lovely beyond measure or description. Her dress was a white long sleeved satin gown, decorated with sequins and beads, and had a four ft. train.  She looks lovely in white. It took Mary an extraordinary long time to make the walk down the isle because she stopped at least 7 times to hug a friend or a family member. And she could not stop beaming.

As the vows were exchanged, a few tears were shed, and yet Mary and John kept their composure. The excitement was overwhelming.

As their last “I do” was given, and they made their way out of the church, everyone was smiling. God had visited this church on this day and he had given His blessing to a wonderful couple.

The reception was held in the church’s banquet room/reception hall. The three tired wedding cake was adorned with red/white and blue flowers, continuing the patriotic color theme of the wedding. The groom’s cake was a beautifully decorated chocolate cake, topped off with chocolate dipped strawberries. Both cakes were beautiful and delicious.
