There will be a race in District 5
Garland City Council
The deadline to file was Monday, March 8, 2010, at 5pm. The deadline passed and the only contested race for Garland city council will be in district 5. Opposing the incumbent is David McNeely.
Doug Athas district 1, Laura Cox district 2 and Larry Jeffus district 4, are unopposed. Their time on the council has been extended another two years.
David McNeely, a lifelong Garland resident, say’s that he is excited about running for city council.
On Monday, March 8, 2010, McNeely filed his petitions to run for city council, district 5, in the May elections.
David and his wife Donna McNeely live on Mayfield in South Garland. Their daughters attend Southgate Elementary School. Except for the time McNeely spent in the Navy he has lived in Garland.
McNeely has a degree in Political Science from the University of Texas at Dallas.
“The time is right for me to run for council,” said McNeely. “This is my hometown, this is where I want to raise my children, and I love Garland. I am very interested in providing an even greater atmosphere for economic growth in South Garland. If I am elected I will work for the citizens that I represent, I will not work for my own political agenda. The citizens will be my agenda.”
