Visiting a Chinese food distributor in Taiwan (09/30/09)
Visiting a Chinese food distributor
After leaving EVA Airlines the Garland delegation stopped for a quick visit to a major distributor of Chinese foods. The tour proved to be both interesting and educational. The company has been in business for over 100 years and distributes their products all over the world.
On display in their gallery is a box for each of their products, and a mural on the wall that features a history of the advancement of their company. Also on display are a very old bicycle and a plow that appears to be over 100 years old.
The business also houses a small museum/gallery, memorializing the business from it’s beginning as a small company to one of the worlds leading distributors of Chinese food.
The Garland delegation toured the business where the foods are made, and were treated to a frozen treat where instead of chocolate chips, it featured black beans. The delegation was to find out later that the black bean in Taiwan is used as either a side ingredient or as one of the main ingredients in a lot of Chinese foods.
It was here the delegation was to learn of the popularity of cooking classes for Mother’s and Children. One such class was being conducted in a separate room of the food distributor. During our tour we were able to observe women and children rolling out cookie dough and using a cookie cutter to make the cookies in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Here, as in every place we stopped, the company had a sign in their front window welcoming the Garland delegation to Taiwan.
