Garland delegation visits Headquarters of EVA Airlines
Mayor Jones, Councilman Jeffus and the entire Garland delegation visited the headquarters of EVA Airlines, where the Mayor was actually able to fly a 747 simulator. EVA Airlines is one of the premiere airlines that travel between Los Angeles and Taipei, Taiwan.
When asked why EVA Airlines does not fly directly to DFW, James Jeng, President of EVA, stated the possibility of flying to DFW was actually investigated when they first started flying in 1994. He said the economic feasibility at the time just was not possible. Members of the Garland delegation suggested that now might be a good time to check out the possibility of locating a hub in the US at DFW, because of the increased numbers of Asian Americans living in the area. President Jeng agreed and said they would definitely check into it.
Assisting the President with the tour was Stephanie Chen, Instructor of Cabin Standards and Cabin Crew Training Department, and Judy Guu, Office Supervisor.
The flight aboard EVA Airlines from LAX to Taipei, Taiwan, took 13 hours. Having flown for 3 ½ hrs. from DFW to LAX aboard American Airlines, then transferring to EVA, the change was remarkable. The inside of an EVA airplane is quite spacious and the food is very good. The crew is attentive, efficient and well trained.
Immediately following the tour, EVA Airlines provided a banquet style lunch for the Garland Delegation, which is actually the same food they provide aboard all their overseas flights and it was delicious.
